About Loop Health
Loop Health is reimagining group health insurance for India's workforce. We combine data-driven underwriting, a curated provider network, and a member-first digital experience to give employees healthcare that actually works. Our engineering team builds the systems that power every interaction - from a member booking a consultation to a CFO reviewing claims analytics.
We are a small, high-output team that believes good engineering is a force multiplier for good healthcare. We move fast, we hold a high bar, and we care deeply about the impact our work has on real people.
The Role
We're looking for an Engineering Manager who is a genuine player/coach — someone who can lead a team of engineers with clarity and empathy, while still being able to sit down at a keyboard and contribute meaningfully to architecture, code review, and technical problem-solving.
You will carry both the credibility of a solid engineer and the accountability of a manager. This will enable you to own outcomes, not just activity, and you will be expected to build a team that ships with quality, speed, and intentionality.
You will work closely with product, business, and other external stakeholders to translate ambiguous problems into well-scoped, well-executed engineering work, acting as the connective tissue between what the business needs and what the team builds.
What You'll Do
Engineering Leadership
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5-10 engineers across different experience levels; from recent grads to senior ICs
Conduct structured 1:1s, provide candid feedback, and actively partner on career development and levelling conversations
Create a team culture that values craftsmanship, ownership and shipping velocity
Recruit, interview, and onboard strong engineering talent, you know what good looks like and you can convince great people to join
Execution & Delivery
Own quarterly and annual roadmap planning in collaboration with Product and leadership; translate strategy into work that can be broken down, estimated, and shipped
Drive on-time delivery using structured project management: Gantt charts, milestone tracking, dependency mapping, and proactive risk management
Run lean and effective sprint ceremonies - your team knows what they're building, why it matters, and what the definition of done is
Create visibility for engineering progress across the organisation; surface blockers early and resolve them decisively
Technical Depth & Architecture
Actively participate in system design: architect new features, review technical proposals, and ensure the platform evolves with intentionality rather than drift
Uphold high engineering standards: pull request reviews, test coverage requirements, observability-first development, and clean documentation
Roll up your sleeves when it matters: prototype a proof-of-concept, debug a production incident, pair with an engineer on a hard problem
Champion simplicity: You push back on over-engineered solutions and reward elegant, maintainable ones
Product & Stakeholder Management
Partner with Product Managers to refine roadmaps, challenge assumptions, and ensure engineering tradeoffs are surfaced and understood by the business
Represent engineering credibly to non-technical stakeholders — communicate progress, risk, and tradeoffs in business language
Build trust with external partners and vendors through reliable delivery and clear communication
Balance competing priorities across product, compliance, and infrastructure needs without losing the team's focus
AI-Native Engineering
Actively champion and model AI-native ways of working — use tools like Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and LLM APIs to multiply individual and team productivity
Evaluate and introduce AI tooling thoughtfully; create processes that help the team leverage AI for code generation, debugging, documentation, and architectural exploration
Stay current with the rapidly evolving AI engineering landscape and bring relevant insights to the team
Data & Observability
Ensure every product feature ships with the right instrumentation — adoption metrics, funnel analytics, and retention signals from day one
Treat data pipelines as a first-class engineering concern — design systems with BigQuery / downstream analytics in mind from the start, not as an afterthought
Define and own SLOs, error budgets, and on-call practices for the systems your team owns
What We're Looking For
Must Have
7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years managing engineering teams
Demonstrable coding ability — you are comfortable reviewing complex code, writing prototypes, and debugging production systems
Strong system design skills: distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, API design
Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, or AWS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
Proven track record shipping high-quality product at pace — you have references who will speak to both your technical depth and leadership effectiveness
Structured thinker who uses data to prioritise, measure, and communicate outcomes
Excellent written and verbal communication — can synthesise complexity for both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong Plus
AI-native: you already use AI tools daily in your engineering and planning workflow
Experience in healthtech, insurtech, fintech, or similarly regulated, high-stakes product domains
Exposure to Python and/or Java backend stacks; experience with modern frontend frameworks is a bonus
Experience building or maintaining real-time data pipelines and working with BigQuery or equivalent data warehouses
Prior experience at a high-growth startup where you've had to scale both systems and teams simultaneously
Why Loop Health
Mission-driven work with real, measurable impact on people's health and financial security
A small, senior engineering team where your decisions have outsized influence on the product and the architecture
Competitive salary, equity, and comprehensive health coverage for you and your family (obviously)
Hybrid work model and a culture that trusts you to do your best work in the environment that suits you
The opportunity to build AI-first engineering practices from the ground up — we are early, and you will shape how we work
